2008 Gibraltar Rock Pinot Noir

James Halliday, Australian Wine companion 2010, www.winecompanion.com.au
“A distinct step up from the ’07 Great Southern Pinot; floral red fruits on the bouquet flow into the palate, which has sweet fruit until the savoury finish provides flavour balance.”

"There's something elusive and ethereal about these Marchand & Burch pinots - they had us mesmerised. Of the two 2008 versions, this is the more 'serious'...This should perform really well in the cellar. It's minerally and undergrowthy but with the brightness of red cherries and roses -and perhaps even the odd flicker of aniseed and basil. Complex. It's lightish in terms of intensity but deceptively forceful, an impression helped by firm, persuasive tannin and crisp acid. We preferred drinking the Mount Barrow Pinot, but in five years' time we may well prefer this. Drink 2011 -2016."

“The 2008 Gibraltar Rock Pinot (from vineyards under the Porongurups) is purer and more poised with less texture and a kirsch note to the cherry. Oddly enough, since those vineyards are north-facing. But they’re two very good wines and testament to the Jeff-and-Pascal partnership.”

"This is the leased biodynamic vineyard which produced the Howard Park Reserve Riesling and, for me, this is the more complex wine. Deeper colour with a plum and dark berry nose. The palate is creamy with ripe red and black currant and berry fruit but nonetheless, quite tightly focused, with lifted floral notes and attractive Asian spice."
