2007 Chardonnay

The Wine Front, Gary Walsh, October 2008
"It's a joint venture between Jeff Burch of (Howard Park) and Pascal Marchand (De La Vougeraie) and the first release makes for an impressive debut. Smooth, silky and urbane with a mix of nougat, funk, grapefruit, pear and honeydew melon flavours. Medium bodied in the mouth with a subtle oatmeal creaminess coupled with gentle pear juice acidity - it's so beautifully calm and composed…lots to love here."

“A thoroughly impressive wine; outstanding texture and mouthfeel invite comparison with Grand Cru White Burgundy; the length, too, is excellent, with seamless fruit and oak.”

Tony Keys, The Key Report, October 2008
"A fragrant nose that has hints of everything good in chardonnay but hard to pin any one nuance down. Sits light and elegantly at the front of the palate giving just enough to get the taste buds tingling. Another vintage or two and this wine should enter the Australian classic list."

Huon Hooke, Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine, April / May 2009
"A complex wine made by Burgundywinemaker Pascal Marchand, This has a marzipan, vanilla, caramel aroma and some well-judged grip on the finish. It's a wine of character more than polish. And more French than Aussie in feel. Firm dry, finish. Lovely stuff."

Ralph Kyte-Powell, Epicure - The Age, September 2008
"From a collaboration between WA wine man Jeff Burch and Burgundian Pascal Marchand, this aristocratic chardonnay isn't a block-buster; subtlety is the thing. Fragrant nectarine, citrus, yeast lees and spicy oak combine in a restrained, complex nose. The extra fine, silky palate is long and elegant with a lingering finish. Drink over three years."

Ray Jordan, The West Australian, September 2008
"This chardonnay is all about mouth feel and texture. It's how Marchand makes his wines. There are lovely grapefruit and cashew characters delivered on a fine elegant palate structure. It's a more delicate style but with plenty of flavour."

Bob Campbell, Master of Wine Oct 2008 - www.bobswinereviews.com
“Pure, delicate citrus fruit flavours with an overlay of very classy oak, smoky bacon, brioche-like yeasty characters and mineral. Superbly subtle wine with impressive power. VEry youthful but will develop.”
